The annual ranking of the beach has been maintained as "Good" since 1999, except in 2010 when the beach was ranked as "Fair".
However, owing to the limited swimming area and the absence of lifeguard service, the beach is not open for swimming and weekly grading is not available.

Hairpin Beach is located at the Southeast of Tai Lam Country Park. It has been closed to swimmers since 2005 for reasons other than water quality.
