The annual ranking of this beach has been maintained as “Good” since 2003, except being ranked as “Fair” in 2016, largely due to the combined effects of heavy rainfall and fewer bright sunshine hours in that year. During a bathing season, it usually achieves Grade 1, while sometimes it hovers to Grade 2.
Beach water quality will be affected by the surface run off or discharge from the hinterland during and after heavy rain and bathers are advised not to swim at the beach for up to three days after a storm or heavy rain. The public are also advised not to swim at the beach until the water quality has improved.

Highlight:
Clear Water Bay First Beach lies on the northern side of Clear Water Bay in Sai Kung. The small and quiet beach is less frequently visited than the Clear Water Bay Second Beach. It is linked to the Second Beach by a short stretch of rocky coast, which would be about a 15-minute energetic walk.
